At our clients’ the responsibility has been on CEO, CFO or HR.
When the CFO office is in charge the follow-up on intangibles really gets done, but it rarely gets the attention it deserves. Also, the measures used are often what is easy to measure, not necessarily what is important.
When HR is in charge we find people who are very dedicated to follow-up intangibles, but naturally the focus is often on competence and culture only. Also, the connection with strategy is many times lost.
When the CEO is in charge the information on intangibles are used as should – in corporate planning, development and control. The downside can be that the CEO already has very clear priorities, thus missing the full potential hidden in the company’s intangibles.
The challenge remains – where is the responsibility that creates the most harmonized intangibles management?
